Hamilton Children's Choir
Celebrating over 30 years of choral singing, the Hamilton Children's Choir consists of approximately 150 young singers between the ages of 5 and 24 years who have a passion for music and enjoy the magical experience of singing and performing in one or more of our choral groups. Under the guidance and leadership of our world-renowned choral director and our gifted artistic staff, the Hamilton Children's Choir program offers an opportunity for young singers in the greater city of Hamilton and surrounding areas to experience musical excellence through high quality vocal instruction and musical training in a challenging, yet positive and enjoyable environment.
Performing is a fundamental part of the choir's program and sharing our gift of song is a joy for our young performers. Traditionally, the HCC organizes and performs two concerts for the local community, a Holiday and Spring Concert. As well, we accept invitations to participate in prestigious musical events, locally, nationally and internationally. In the past, the Hamilton Children's Choir has performed with Celine Dion at the Juno Awards, Opera Hamilton, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hamilton Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bach Elgar Choir, Chorus Niagara, High Park Choirs and The Canadian Male Orpheus Male Choir. In addition our choirs have performed at special events/venues such as the HAIDA celebration, Ivor Wynne STADIUM, the Skydome, and "Ontario Sings".
Touring is one of the highlights of the HCC program, locally, nationally and internationally and is mainly done by the HCC Chamber Choir .This choir has performed in such places as the Maritimes, France, Powell River, British Columbia, and St. John's, Newfoundland. While on tour, the HCC Chamber Choir, consisting of approximately 50 choristers of our most experienced singers (ages 10 & older) have recently enjoyed some international choral successes. In 2006, the HCC Chamber Choir travelled to Spain and competed in the 2006 Tolosa Children's Choral Competition where they honoured with the Audience Choice Award for best choir and earned 2nd place in the children's choral category. In May 2008, the HCC chamber choir travelled to Szeczin, Poland to participate in the celebrated Songbridge Choral Festival after having been awarded first place in the Children's Choirs category of the CBC/Radio-Canada National Radio Amateur Choral Competition for both best choir and best performance – Canadian Work – Children & Youth category. Upon their return from Poland, the HCC Chamber Choir travelled to Montreal to compete in the Gala Concert of the CBC/Radio-Canada National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs only to be awarded the GRAND PRIZE, Cantabile Award, for best performing choir.
The Hamilton Children's Choir is an exciting and stimulating choral program that has enriched the lives of many talented youth over the years.
